I’m a Mummy!

So this post is well overdue. 10 weeks overdue in fact, as I actually gave birth 10 weeks ago and since then have neglected my blog (sorry blog!) but let’s pretend for a second that I’m writing this in the first week of July…

Are you feeling the excitement?!

I gave birth to a baby boy!!!!

Born on his due date, my first child was born by natural birth weighing 7lbs 6oz and we named him Amalfi. Amalfi is a name I came up with after thinking about relating the name to our wedding – as we got married on the Amalfi Coast in Italy last year.

Although I said whilst in labour that I would never give birth again, I do look back on it and realise what an amazing experience it is to bring a baby into the world. Everyone was right – it did hurt, but I soon forgot the pain once I held my special bundle in my arms.

Since then I have loved being a mummy to Amalfi. It’s funny, when people ask whether he’s a good baby, I think about all the sleepless nights, getting up every hour feeling like a zombie, all the times I’ve had to clean sick (and poo!) off my clothes, all the crying and wailing that’s almost driven me insane at times and the struggles I’ve had with breastfeeding… and I can’t respond with anything other than, “yes, he is a good baby” because I now realise that all these things that test your sanity are what makes a baby, a baby and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Besides, how could I think anything less when I get to see this smile every day?

So what have I been up to in the past 10 weeks? To summarise, moving house (when Amalfi was 4 days old!), hosting many guests as family have travelled far and wide to meet our new addition, trying to lose my pregnancy weight, enjoying the best summer weather we’ve had in years and of course, spending quality time with my wee boy who I can’t get enough of.

From now on, I shall mostly be blogging like this:
